A Little Bit About Me...

I have a somewhat relaxed teaching style that does not compromise the distinction or respect between student and teacher. This teaching style results in a classroom atmosphere where students feel comfortable responding to my questions and asking for further clarification about complex topics. Many students have told me that my teaching style is refreshing and they feel comfortable in class.
With my numerous experiences in education, I think I could be a great asset in helping students become more knowledgeable. I have worked as a Tutor, Assistant Teacher, and did a short placement as an Interim Teacher. I can easily adjust to changing environments that will best suit the student’s potential. I was a Tutor in an after school program, and was an Assistant Teacher in a Special Education classroom. I finished an Interim Teaching placement in a middle school A.P. English classroom.

I am a discussion based teacher. I prefer to engage the students higher level thinking with a questioning approach. I do not think that lecture or rote memorization are proper ways to educate a child. I believe that teachers affect a students learning not just through the subject but also through the real world examples that should be the core of all learning. Students will only reach their potential when they are challenged beyond what they feel they are capable.

A Little Bit About Me...

As both an undergraduate and graduate student, I was steeped in the process of writing: development, research, writing, and revision. During my graduate years, I worked as a research assistant and editor for one of my professors. In addition, I tutored incoming students in reading and study skills. I am currently a PhD candidate in Ecology at the University of Tennessee Knoxville.
