I have a somewhat relaxed teaching style that does not compromise the distinction or respect between student and teacher. This teaching style results in a classroom atmosphere where students feel comfortable responding to my questions and asking for further clarification about complex topics. Many students have told me that my teaching style is refreshing and they feel comfortable in class.
With my numerous experiences in education, I think I could be a great asset in helping students become more knowledgeable. I have worked as a Tutor, Assistant Teacher, and did a short placement as an Interim Teacher. I can easily adjust to changing environments that will best suit the student’s potential. I am a discussion based teacher. I prefer to engage the students higher level thinking with a questioning approach. I do not think that lecture or rote memorization are proper ways to educate a child. I believe that teachers affect a students learning not just through the subject but also through the real world examples that should be the core of all learning. Students will only reach their potential when they are challenged beyond what they feel they are capable.
I am blessed to have attended a college that prepared me for real world situations and classroom circumstances. I have achieved two bachelor's degrees, a BS in bible and a BS in elementary education. I like observing students and assessing their needs. Then finding fun and instructive materials to assist them with their learning. With ESL students it is very important to find their areas of weakness and fill in the gaps. Every student has different needs. They need to focus on these areas so they can succeed in the regular classroom.
As a teacher with ten years of experience I have taught all ages of students K-12. Most of my experience is in ESL. I am certified Elementary K-6, ESL K-12, Social Studies, Geography, Sociology, American History, and World History all 6-12.
