I have found that any student can learn. The key to a student's success is that education must be approached in the correct manner for that individual student. Not all students learn in the same fashion, and that must be considered in planning and implementing lessons. I believe that education needs to be approached in a fun way that coincides with the student's individual interests and learning styles. I implemented and maintained custom code for a number of clients, and I performd lead programmer functions and mentor others. When explaining concepts to students in classes that I sub-taught I felt the best approach was to talk to individual students and use a whiteboard to clearly explain the concepts. I usually would give hints or start the problem, and then I would look for the student to add insight on how to progress. I also feel that teaching is an adaptive process and each student has their own learning personality that the teacher needs to recognize and adjust to. My teaching style is more apt to be visual and interactive because I believe most students who are struggling in mathematics are helped by these methods. I believe that mathematics is highly stigmatized in the way that once a student gets frustrated by it, they easily dismiss the entire field as being foreign to them. This is where I step in and show them that even if they are having trouble with all the formulas in algebra they can learn them a more visual way, say using geometry. There is always multiple ways to learning one math topic and a student will find a way that they feel comfortable with.
