A Little Bit About Me...

I first find out your true objective for learning the material. Is it a requirement and not in your field of study so you just want to pass the class or is this a part of your passion or career and really want to know the nuts and bolts of the subject. I will adjust accordingly and make out a plan. I will also figure out the best way to teach you the material and from there we will have a plan to accomplish the targeted goal.
I have a lot of experience not only in fields that you may need help learning, but I also spent time during college tutoring classmates as I was in the class and developed a style to help students learn quickly and also reinforce the concepts. I understand the student to determine the best learning style for you and I make the transformation teaching you the material in an effective manner.

I worked in RCC and CSUSB as a tutor since 2006. Therefore, I'm well versed in the subjects I tutor. Students who focus and concentrate with me will absorb the information and digest the concepts. However, that requires my students to spend time alone for their own educational development. I'm willing to give my students access to my telephone, so they can contact if they any questions. However, calls are not acceptable after 10 pm.

All I do is tend to my students needs. I'm personal. Like to get off track with my students and lead them back to the point.

Went to the Army two years and reserve three years. Came back and picked up the quickest degree possiable. Moved to Hawwaii, three years. Became a ciritified dept of defense government contractor. Furnish and deliver contracts. Ended up moving back home to Albuquerque NM. I started working in the Indian Casinos for 13 years. I bought a house and retired. But now I'm tired of sitting around.

Find out what level the student is at, what their interest are, what the like about learning or hate about learning and go from their. As each person is different and each person learns in their own way. Learning is not hard, finding out how to learn is.
As a Merchant Marine and Chief Steward I have taught, tutored, or mentor kids of all ages and backgrounds. My passion when teaching is to try and breakdown the subject to it's most basic level. A level that the person being taught can understand. Having work with kids from different ethnic and educational backgrounds I find this to be very affective and productive. Also, not having been a great student in high school with dyslexia, I have been able to over come these short comings and graduate from collage with honors.

A Little Bit About Me...

In order to move forward in an academic subject, let’s first see where the student is in their understanding of the subject. Perhaps the student's mind is filled with a patch-work of facts and concepts that, together, simply do not make sense. In such a case, the leap from basic memorization to higher-level thinking such as analysis and problem solving will be difficult. But rather than bore the student with things too basic, let's apply what they already know to the unknown. Like any explorer, it becomes fun & exciting to explore the subject; to use one's imagination and creativity to solve surprising problems; to build confidence and interest. Once things click, I’m happily out of a job!

I have spent all of my career in Information Technology, in positions from programmer to Vice President. In most of my projects, I've mentored and tutored others in many different areas. I have outstanding written and verbal communications skills. I've taught in Jr/Sr high schools (math) and also in Community Colleges: computer skills, economics and math. I've also delivered formal systems-oriented classes to employees and customers and volunteered in Junior Achievement programs and day care centers. I enjoy teaching and have excellent skills.
I enjoy mentoring others and giving them the benefit of my knowledge and skills. I have always had a "thirst" for knowledge and enjoy sharing with others. I believe that learning is best accomplished through gaining an ability to analyze a problem logically and following a proscribed methodology to solving problems. I received a very ... read more

It is important for me to determine what motivates each student to learn, what their interests are and what is important to them. I wanted the student to see how each lesson was valuable to their future success. I always got my students involved in the classroom with open discussions. Each week my students gave a five minute presentation on a subject of their choise, building their self confidence along with their reading, writing and speaking skills.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a current substitute teacher, tutor, credential student, and life long learner, I am extremely interested in the welfare and education of my students. My work history and professional encounters are extremely eclectic. This translates into the fact that I have a solid background within the realm of daily capitalism, business, and private industry, combined with positive experiences while working with non-profit organizations, community groups, volunteers, and migrant workers in various locations throughout the Midwestern United States. In the past I have had the pleasure of assisting children from diverse environments and low income families through Head Start and Migrant Day Care Programs. They ranged in ages from 7 weeks to 12 years old. As a NCLB tutor, I currently help children in grades K-12. One of the key elements of tutoring is communication between the tutor and student. Encouraging discussion instead of lecturing of the subject is important. Facilitating good rapport allows me to understand a student’s strengths and weaknesses and allows focus on the weak areas. For example, does the student primarily utilize rote memorization or is he/she capable of a higher level of critical thinking? Someone who is more familiar with memorization as a way of learning can be taught to expand their understanding of the subject if the right questions are asked to them. Someone that demonstrates higher critical thinking skills might do better with repetitive exercises on the subject which encourages focus and application.

Working with children is my passion ,and ensuring their success is my goal.I consider my teaching style to be a demonstrator in which I put an emphasis on demonstration and modeling. Where I guide the student to develop and apply the skills that were demonstrated. I feel that encouraging student participation while adapting their unique learning style will help the student take responsibility for learning what they need help on. A student should be pushed to excel but it is also about teaching the student discipline, and respecting others. Lastly, tutoring is about having fun, creating a exciting experience to the student and creating a memorable teaching environment that ensure success for the student.
