I am a recent graduate from Purdue University - Calumet. I majored in English Literature and plan on obtaining my teaching certificate in the state of Florida. I have not had much experience. I have helped friends and family when in need of assistance with English. I have always been a good speller, and am willing to help anyone who is looking for it. My approach to tutoring is that all students are capable of learning. Kids often benefit from a fresh perspective and it is my job to make them more confident again. I try to explain to the students that once the rules are understood it becomes simple to get to the final result. To start my tutoring processing, I try to identify what is needed to improve the defiance of the student. Then I try to see what method works best for the student. Thirdly, I go over the rules for the subject and write those down for the student to use as a guide to solve problems. And fourthly, we work at similar exercises of my own or from the book. I truly enjoy working with students of all ages. It doesn't matter what they don't know because I believe anyone can be taught anything, at least as long as you have the right teacher and materials at your disposal. I believe students are like little sponges. They're taking in everything around them. Obviously, if you fill their heads with garbage, they will learn garbage. However, if you fill their heads with quality information, you explain it in a way that they understand, and you make it fun for them to learn, then they will learn everything you're trying to teach. I am currently on my second year of teaching intensive reading to 7th and 8th graders in a title 1 school.. I work closely with ESE and students with all types of disabilities.
