A Little Bit About Me...

I have had extensive experience handling and managing children and adults in a learning environment. During my time at Lahser High School, I tutored students ages 7-15 in subjects such as elementary math, history, pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II and geometry. As a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I began tutoring foreign exchange students from China in English language skills. I have had extensive experience studying Chinese language and have obtained a high degree of fluency in Mandarin Chinese. I have studied and worked in China and understand not only the language, culture and business world, but also understand the type of work, dedication and teaching it takes for a foreigner to obtain Chinese language skills. I have taken classes on law, economics and international politics in Mandarin Chinese and have worked in Chinese law firms and businesses where the offi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked quite a lot with elementary school children, whether it be in or outside of work. I have done independent tutor work, mainly in the fields of Art and Language Arts. In the past I had a long-term job in which I was required to interact with young children, and I did so willingly. For two years in a row, I taught a Beginner's Guitar course for children and the feedback I received was overwhelmingly positive. I enjoy very much seeing things "click" with students, particularly young ones. It inspires me not only do teach well but also to always learn more myself.

A Little Bit About Me...

I use a variety of teaching styles while instructing students. Alternating between styles helps to keep minds engaged and participation at a maximum. When covering content I use many examples that relate to real life, that way students can relate it to something they have experienced or seen. I also like performing small-scale experiments and labs. I will use power point presentations as well as the overhead for drawings, notes, and discussion. There are many websites that I make use of, the websites that I use are usually hands on and require students to think and solve problems on their own.
I have recently graduated from the University of Michigan-Flint with a Bachelor of Science and teacher certification degree. I student taught during the fall '09 semester. My pedagogical style adjusts itself according to the needs of the student. I am typically patient, and considerate, yet I can be firm if I need to be. No one person learns the same way, and my goal is to provide the best possible education, customized for a student's needs. I believe in a hands on approach, and my goal is to guide the student to his or her own discoveries, which I believe makes a stronger impression than simple memorization can offer. I believe strongly that education is the single most important gift that you can give yourself, and my constructive approach reflects this belief.
While earning my BA from Oakland University, I would often tutor my fellow students and help them refine their papers. In addition to the sharp grammar skills required by my major, the numerous papers that I wrote have given me a broad general knowledge base which expands beyond the pu ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a MSU graduate, I have experience in math up to linear algebra and abstract algebra. This includes calc 1,2, and 3 as well as differential equations. I also have taught at Michigan State University's Champ program, which is where I tutored algebra and geometry to advanced high school students. As a musical instructor, I have taught in Marshall, East Lansing, and the Detroit Area in the areas of classical guitar, electric guitar, composition, and entry-level piano. Before getting a degree in engineering, I was a music major at Michigan State University.
My teaching style is very student friendly. I engage the student in working out easy examples, which provide an illustration of fundamentals. Part of my process is to "walk through" an example with the student, showing them a process to solve a given problem. I then assign a problem for them to work out. This resembles a test-l ... read more

Being currently enrolled in one of the Top 20 schools in the state of Michigan, learning is something that comes to me as second nature. Math, English, Science, Foreign Language and History are the five required subjects in the Troy School District, and they offer hundreds of other courses to excel the student body into a wide range of future careers. My strengths include writing and editing papers, biology, astronomy, algebra, Spanish and music. I also have taken extracurricular activities in music to better understand music theory. I know how to play 4 instruments at an advanced level and can sing. For the past 3 years, I have been helping out students at The School of Rock in Rochester, and have been participating in it as well.

A Little Bit About Me...

Thomas Edison said, "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. I am extremely persistant. Whatever it takes to get someone to understand a concept I will strive to discover it. Most of all the process of learning should be kept exciting so that the pupil is left yearning for the next lesson.
I went to public schools in East Detroit, Michigan. In eighth grade I set a personal goal to attend the University of Michigan. I never had private tutors. My strongest subject is math. Mr Learmont, my junior high school history teacher would frequently say, "Take care of these books and these books will take care of you." It was that inspiration that raised me to love learning and in turn teaching others.
