Florida Writes Tutoring

The Florida Writing Assessment was implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 as required by a law passed by the 1990 legislature. Does your student need a tutor? Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive). Florida Writes is difficult for some students. Give your child an edge by selecting a tutor today on your terms, on your schedule, to suit your needs and within budget.

I have been working with children of all ages, from diverse backgrounds, and in a variety of environments for many years. I have been a camp counselor, swim instructor, piano teacher, and religious education teacher. I currently have been substitute teaching in grades K-12. My bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Communication studies in addition to my current graduate work has allowed me a strong command of the English language. I am most confident teaching reading, writing, and other areas of language arts. My vast array of experiences has also allowed me comfort in teaching the basics of mathematics, science, and the arts. Being a tutor allows one to reach out and find the most personal and effective way to connect and instruct a student. My exposure to the many learning styles of students has taught me the importance of first understanding the student's learning style.

I find an interactive, Socratic teaching style in which I encourage the student to discover the answers on their own to understand why something works the way it does is a very effective approach for me rather than just lecturing, particularly for younger learners. I find it equally important for students to understand the why of what they are learning as well as the how and the what. I believe that students' multiple intelligences should be harnessed and that if students don't understand information presented initially, it is up to the teacher to find different ways of presenting the information so that the student can make it his or her own. I have over 11 years of experience providing in home tutoring to individual high school, elementary school, and middle school students as well as adults for test preparation as well as for academic subject preparation. After college, I taught preschool for a year. I have always enjoyed working with children but this was my first opportunity to teach. I find that children learn better with a hands-on approach. I tried to make sure that everything I taught the children in my class was taught in an interactive, hands-on way. I allowed the children to work together and even teach each other at times. I feel it is most important to provide children with an environment that they feel comfortable and are able to reach their full potential. I also was able to go overseas and teach, which allowed me to use my teaching style in an environment that was new. I found that allowing children to be creative, and providing them with a creative learning environment, is universal in the child's success. Throughout high school and college, I have tutored various ages in a wide array of subjects. I graduated with a bachel

Through my educational experience thus far, I have found the method of facilitating to be a highly beneficial style of teaching. I have learned that if students take part in their learning, they will retain more information and be more confident in their abilities. These methods prove to stimulate social, emotional, physical and academic growth. I love working with children and will continue to be a positive influence in their lives. As early as 9th grade, I was an educator. I began to volunteer as an elementary tutor, and continued this role throughout my high school career. It was because of this experience that I attended college and majored in English with a minor in Literature & Education. I believe that it is essential to expect excellence and encourage that in the learning child. I believe that all life activities and situations can become a class for the young child and that positive input is the only acceptable criteria. Achedemic learning can be so much fun and can be applied to any segment of a child's daily activities. I have found that if a child feels that the teacher genuinely cares for him/her, that child can exceed even his/her own expectations. I understand the learning process and highly respect the individualized patterns that it can take. This is a part of the thrill of teaching and watching the light go on in a child. I am the mother of seven children ranging in ages from 32 to 18. I home-schooled them for 16 years and tutored them when they entered the public school system. In 1995, I worked for two years teaching an early intervention reading program

I love teaching and helping kids. Since both my parents are in education it something that I have always been around. My mother works with troubled children and she always says they just need people to give them a chance and a little extra time. I believe that all kids can achieve given the right circumstances. I’m patient and understanding with the children that I tutor and I try to relate each subject that I’m tutoring to their own special interests. I love the special felling I get when I know I helped a child succeed. As a Florida A & M University graduate with a B.S. in Biological and Agricultural System Engineering, I have extensive experience with various levels of math and science. In my experience as a tutor, I can definitely say that it is one of several enjoyable jobs that a college-graduate such as I can have. In my previous years volunteering as a Peer-Tutor, I certainly did an excellent job helping other students with their subjects especially in grasping the abstract concepts of Mathematics. Out of all the subjects I've tutored in the past, Mathematics seems to be the one that most students struggle with. That which I have done to facilitate student understanding and relationship with math is by providing very intelligible, concise, and simple explanations including demonstrations of the relationships amongst the concepts thus, facilitating the students' understanding of mathematical structures. I have chosen education as a career because I believe that education is perhaps the most important function performed in our culture, or for that matter, any culture

I've always enjoyed teaching. I taught in different contexts, worked with children and adults in classes, camps, and corporate training sessions. I taught French, dance, and worked as a tutor while preparing my degree. My ability to work hands-on and with labs makes it easier for any student to apply the acquired knowledge from theory to practice. My experience with non profit organizations made me realize that knowledge transmitted is always a plus. Anywhere in the world knowledge transmitted is a value acquired for life not only for the students but also for the teacher. I'm a professional French business analyst, and graduate student in software engineering. I've been working as a teacher and translator with Fortune 500 companies such as Coca cola, Home Depot, and IBM. I also worked as a tutor in schools such as American International University.
