Experience Summary
I am the mother of seven children ranging in ages from 32 to 18. I home-schooled them for 16 years and tutored them when they entered the public school system. In 1995, I worked for two years teaching an early intervention reading program to a select group of elementary school children within the Greenville South Carolina school system. I have been a substitute teacher and Paraprofessional in that school system as well as Colton Joint Unified School System in Colton, California and Clayton County School System in Clayton County, Georgia. In the last ten years in these postions I have had extensive experience with Special Education students and Autistic students both as group and one on one teacher assistant. From time to time I have also taken on private foreign students for English aquisition and accent reduction.
Teaching Style
I believe that it is essential to expect excellence and encourage that in the learning child. I believe that all life activities and situations can become a class for the young child and that positive input is the only acceptable criteria. Achedemic learning can be so much fun and can be applied to any segment of a child's daily activities. I have found that if a child feels that the teacher genuinely cares for him/her, that child can exceed even his/her own expectations. I understand the learning process and highly respect the individualized patterns that it can take. This is a part of the thrill of teaching and watching the light go on in a child.
