Because I have been teaching since the 1970s, I have extensive experience in several teaching styles and have a creative sensibility. After three years I taught for one year at Clayton Primary in a multi-handicapped class. I then transferred to Four Oaks Middle School in 1993 where I continue to teach. I don't approve of "teaching to the test" but there is a definite method to being a successful test taker. Wheter it's weekly spelling, multiplication tables, states and their capitals, or the dreaded end-of-grade or end-of-course, I can coach you on strategies that are proven to help you perform better. Tutoring differs from teaching in that "style" is replaced by method. Some of the methods I have used in the past are rhythm and music, neumonic devices, and of course, drill and practice. I have been told that I am gifted with presenting material in novel ways. As mentioned in my earlier description, I have eighteen years experience as an educator. After receiving my teaching degree in May 2004 I was a substitute teacher in Washington State for 6 months. Then I spent the next 27 (Jan. 2005- Apr. 2007)months working as a Teacher Collaborator in the United States Peace Corps. Upon successful completion of the Peace Corps I moved to London, England and taught 6th grade from 2007-2010. During that time I did 1-1 tutoring with 10 children for a total of 100 hours.
