As a writer and former teacher, I am driven to deliver an integrated learning experience. In my classroom I taught students to use all their skills to remember, learn, and master the subject matter. I've earned a dual degree, BA in Journalism and Spanish, that enable me to teach grammar, literature, and many aspects of language arts from a global first-hand perspective. I have tutored elementary, high school, and adult students, in reading, writing, Spanish, and business Spanish conversation.

Throughout my undergraduate studies, I was heavily involved in volunteering and mentoring in everything from education to community outreach programs. After I received my undergraduate degree, I became a corps member in the 2003 Teach for America corps. As a corps member, I served as a member of a national service corps of outstanding recent college graduates of all academic majors who commit two years to teach in under-resourced urban and rural public schools. I received a bachelors degree from The University of Memphis in integrative studies in the fall of 2009. Upon graduation, I was required to complete two semesters of student teaching. Also, during my four years of college, I tutored three different students, one in reading and the other two in English. From August 2009 through January 2011, I was employed at a child care facility where I was director but spent most of my time tutoring and assisting the after school kids with their homework and projects. I am a strong believer in teaching a student how to learn. By that I mean, students not only need to know a specific subject matter but also how to aquire and use knowledge. My background is mostly in math and it is what I enjoy teaching the most. I like to use manipulatives to teach. I think students learn better if they have a "hands-on" approach.
I am certified to teach in both California and Texas in a K-8th grdae classroom. In California I taught in a self contained 5th grade classroom. In Texas I taught 7th grade math. I also hold a supplementary credential in California for Business.
