A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my undergraduate studies, I was heavily involved in volunteering and mentoring in everything from education to community outreach programs. After I received my undergraduate degree, I became a corps member in the 2003 Teach for America corps. As a corps member, I served as a member of a national service corps of outstanding recent college graduates of all academic majors who commit two years to teach in under-resourced urban and rural public schools. After receiving extensive and rigorous training in Teach for America’s summer institute in Houston, I went to the Mississippi Delta to teach tenth grade social studies in Indianola, Mississippi. As a writer and former teacher, I am driven to deliver an integrated learning experience. In my classroom I taught students to use all their skills to remember, learn, and master the subject matter. I've earned a dual degree, BA in Journalism and Spanish, that enable me to teach grammar, literature, and many aspects of language arts from a global first-hand perspective.
