My comments on tutoring Algebra I : Received an A in all Algebra classes, including Honors Algebra in high school, College Algebra (taken in high school, and again in 2003 while attending Millikin). I received a special honor on a project in my high school College Algebra class. I have tutored junior high and high school students in algebra, and also tutored for junior high algebra within the Decatur Public School District while working as a Teaching Assistant at Johns Hill Magnet School.

I am a natural teacher - it's what I do when I'm not getting paid. I just like to share knowledge of what, why, when, where, and how. My teaching style is one which engages the student actively in the learning process. I have used the "popcorn" technique in a classroom, where I call out "popcorn", then call on someone at random. This ensures that each student in the class is following, or else they lose their turn to read. If I'm working w/ a student w/ poor reading skills, I allow them to read, and help them w/ the difficult words, encouraging them to sound out the word.
