My comments on tutoring ACT : Math and Science portions only!

I started tutoring in high school for extra credit. I have primarily tutored in mathematics and general chemistry! I tutored a girl in Algebra 1 for a year, helped my best friend and her Mom with college mathematics, and worked through college algebra with my husband. In college I was a teachers assistant for general chemistry 1 and tutored in quantitative chemical analysis. Since then I have tutored a gentlemen for the math portion of his GED. Basically, I love the one-on-one opportunity to help people to find that "light-bulb moment" where the math and science is no longer torture, but instead it makes sense! :)

A Little Bit About Me...

I recently graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Engineering. I have taken extensive courses in math and science. Math and science are fields that I love and excel at. While in undergrad I was active in many student organizations and volunteer opportunities. I volunteered at science olympiad for a year and also tutored middle school students. Cumulatively, including extended substitute teaching situations, I have taught all grade levels 1-12 in various subjects. I would describe my teaching style as ecclectic. By this I mean that I discern which style or strategy would best accomdodate the needs of the particular child, based on their learning style. Once the child's learning style is distinguished, I would tailor my lessons/tutoring to that particular style.
Throughout college, I consistently worked as a tutor or mentor, specifically with minority populations. Upon graduation, I joined Teach for America and taught high school English in rural North Carolina.
