Experience Summary
I have a First Class BA in English from Oxford University and a Masters in Film. After graduating I worked with an educational consultancy where I helped to create learning materials for numerous children and adults, many of whom were learning English as a second language or had dyslexia. This sparked my interest in tutoring. I went on to spend two years working with a prestigious tutoring company, teaching children of all ages. During this time I taught English as a foreign language, French, essay writing techniques, poetry, Latin and elementary mathematics. My oldest student was in his forties and my youngest was three!
I also have experience of acting as a mentor to people with learning difficulties.
Teaching Style
I believe that education should be a voyage of discovery for both the student and the teacher. All too often students become demotivated and demoralised, losing faith in their instincts and abilities. Through sensitive tutoring I aim to reawaken an enthusiasm for learning in my students - to tap into their natural curiosity and resourcefulness to enable them to take ownership of their education and meet their potential. I have a strong working knowledge of different learning styles and teaching theories and am careful to tailor lessons to learners' specific needs and aptitudes.
