Experience with phonics(as a teacher of 1st graders, also experience with children who have learning difficulties, referred to by the school. These children ranged from kindergarten to 8th grades. Special emphasis on reading and writing. I taught in public and private schools and have tutored in my home 10 years. I recently worked with Professional Tutors of America, with junior high students in math. I enjoy working one on one with children to improve academic performance. I have a number of books collected to supplement learning. I like using at least 5 different kinds of activities per session to keep interest. I try to target problem areas that students are having. I encourage them to ask questions and stop me when I am explaining something in order for them to understand it better. It really puts a smile on my face when I can see their frustration melt away. There is no set style that I teach it just depends on where the students strengths and weaknesses lie. Mathematics and the sciences don't have to be near as difficult as they are made out to be, it's all about the problem solving process. I worked at the Tutoring Club in Folsom, CA for 1 year. I tutored a variety of age groups, mostly high school age, in mathematics up through calculus, chemistry, biology and physics. I also worked at the learning center through Humboldt State University for about a year. Other than that, I have had multiple students for private tutoring sessions since 2005.
