A Little Bit About Me...

I define teaching as the process by which I help students to learn. I guide learning by helping students individually, at other times instructing an entire class, and still at other times by encouraging class participation. Spontaneity is a valued part of teaching. If the teaching appears memorized, not spoken diaphragmatically, not spoken with eye contact, and if there are no visual aids, learning will likely not take place. Learning is, of course, the main purpose of education. It is the goal of every student and the task of every teacher to increase knowledge and understanding in the classroom. I feel that the concept of learning should be focused around four main areas. Independent thought is essential to the development of each student. Being able to form unique independent ideas to solve problems will serve them both in and outside of the classroom. Group interaction is also an imp ... read more

I have been working with kids of all ages for a long time. I love to see them learn and grow. That moment when they "get" something is magical! I spent the 2011-2012 school year teaching at a title 1 school in Collier County and have grown exponentially from it! I had several students in my class who needed special help, and half of my class were English language learners. These students have helped me to strengthen my skills and adapt to different student's styles.
I like to make teaching fun! If a student is bored they aren't going to be putting 100% into their work. I also use a positive reward system and celebrate all achievement. Even if it is minor.

I have over 350 hours of experience working in middle school intensive reading classrooms, 180 hours in a 7th grade science room, completed an internship in a 7th and 8th grade science classroom, and volunteered at Naples Botanical Gardens. Starting in the fall I will be interning full time in a honors marine science class.
I believe all students are capable of learning. It is the role of the educator to help students identify their strengths and provide them with the tools that will help them integrate new knowledge into existing schemas. I try to integrate metacognitive tools into content teaching to instill life long learning.

I've been a teacher's unofficial little helper since I was in Elementary, helping the students of my class that the teacher simply didn't have the extra time to help. From then on, I helped and even eventually taught my younger siblings when the current school system left them in the dust, and even helped them get a leg up and advance faster than their classmates. I've tutored a few younger kids in various subjects in my high school years, as well as occasionally teaching Taekwondo classes.
My teaching style is flexible, tailored to the specific needs of the student in question. Everybody learns differently and at different paces!

My experience, (both academic and work)has been widely varied, ranging from research and engineering to financial management in a corporate environment, followed by golf course design and landscape management. In addition I used my experience in construction and woodworking to build and market patio furniture. Unfortunately the housing depression of the mid 2000's caused the business to be non profitable and was closed. Since 2005 I have been semi retired and used my construction experience to work at a lumber and hardware store.

I love teaching and working with youth and children.  I am patient with students and teach in a way that empowers the student to find the answers for himself/herself.  I love when my students have "aha" moments and really begin to understand the topic of study.  I believe education is a critical component to success in life and I am available to help your child reach his/her full potential by providing the best education possible.  I also believe learning should be fun and interesting and do my best to make this a reality, regardless of the topic.
Both my undergraduate and graduate degrees required a high level of excellence in writing papers.  I have learned extensive grammatical skills due to writing research papers and essays on various topics.  In addition, I have tutored several youth and children in math, history, and English. Many of these youth came from Korea and had to ov ... read more

I earned my Bachelors degree in Oregon and starting substituting there on my way to a permanent position. In Oregon, you must have a teaching certificate to sub. By the time my first year ended, they had passed a tax reform bill and were actually laying teachers off. I came to Florida in hopes of getting a teaching position, but found the attitudes on education much different and chose to go another route. I still substitute regularly. I also worked as a Teaching Assistant for a First grade classroom. I also tutored for a national franchize for one year until someone else took over the business. I tutored mostly reading and other elementary subjects. I plan to teach English to Spanish speaking students and adults next year and would like more experience with teaching adults.
I like to teach with a hands on learning method. I believe both children and adults learn better when they c ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with children for what seems like my whole life, mostly through church. I know that every child can succeed with the right help. I myself am caring, compassionate, patient, and encouraging. I believe that my Communication degree has given me the unique ability to be able to explain problems in concepts in many different ways, which allows me to discover which works best for each student. I also try to relate problems and concepts, especially those that students are not fond of, to their personal lives, whether it be through what they'll need to do in college in order to pursue their dream, or how it applies to real life. I strive to help children embrace the learning of all subjects.
I have always been driven to succeed, especially in school. I graduated magna cum laude with my BA in Communication this past December. This degree increased my own ability to communicate ... read more

I like more interactive methods, as that is the basically what I did the majority of the time. I don't enjoy seminars with large groups as much. I try to be very patient and articulate and if one avenue of explanation is not working I will try another. I am an encourager - you can do it! I have 4 elementary age school grandchilden, two of whom are home schooled and like to help them discover new things.
As a Nurse Manager of an ICU, I was tapped to teach IV Therapy and heart rhythm monitoring classes. That developed into a FT position as a Nursing Inservice Coordinator, then later as a Director of a hospital wide education department, either teaching classes myself(such as in CPR)or coordinating others to teach. My years as a consultant I either taught seminars having to do with quaility improvement or worked with smaller groups and on-in-one in business/hospital facilities. I enjoy working with elementary school children as well as adults. I have much to offer in regards to being bilingual. Read, write and speak the Spanish Language. Being able to tutor others regardless of age is a blessing that is a learning experience for the tutor as well as the student. As I have enjoyed and receive great pleasure in reading I would also like to continue to pass this great gift to others.
As a recent graduate of Strayer University, Adult Education I have had the priviledge during my work experience to be able to tutor reading with first and second graders from inner city school program under the PNC BANK reading program. I have had extensive knowledge in training adults for the last 10 years in the field of security and have been able to extend myself with adults as well as children.
