A Little Bit About Me...

People are always surprised when they find out I'm a math nerd. I'm outgoing, I like to joke and I play sports. But believe it or not, I actually do enjoy math and this is one of the biggest reasons for my success as a tutor/teacher. I don't fake my enthusiasm and this helps engage students. I like to think of myself as fun and I like to make a joke here and there. I believe that a lot of times, less is more when it comes to teaching math. I try to do as little leading as possible when helping students solve problems so that they will be best equipped in the future to solve on their own. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children. My theory of teaching is using the multiple intelligence theory. I believe that all children have the capacity to learn but in their own way. I like to incoporate different styles of learning in a lesson. I also like to incorporate hands on activities, because I believe that doing is learning.
I have been working with children from K-12 grade since 2001. I was part of the Math Academy in 2002. I have been subsituting in grades K-8 since 2009. I am fluent in the Spanish and I have experience working with migrant as well as with English Learner students. I worked with EL students for 3 years. My name is Qiqi Peng. I am a current graduate of University of California, Berkeley and a past graduate of Modesto Junior College. I just earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in May 2009 at UC Berkeley. I also had an Associate of Art degree in Chemistry and Behavioral & Social Science in Aug 2007 at Modesto Junior College. From Feb 2006 to Aug 2007, I worked at the tutoring center of Modesto Junior College as a math/chemistry tutor.
I enjoy tutoring. It allows me to pass on my knowledge, to exercise my communication skills, and to help my fellow college students. I strive to include various learning styles when working with children. Some students learn best by listening or writing, while others need movement or tactile experiences to help in comprehension. I believe in keeping students engaged at all times, to minimize wasted time. Every child has potential. A teacher just has to know how to reach each child, and that happens when the students builds trust with the teacher.
I have taught music in public education for the last 15 years. I have been involved in church music ministry for over 25 years, and currently am the church pianist in Stockton, Ca. I love working with children of all ages. Math is my second love and I almost majored in math instead of music. Math was always easy for me in school. A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is my passion, I believe that every student has the ability to do better and every student can be taught. There is no set method to teach as every person absorbs information differently. I like to teach by providing many different methods of instruction and then observing which is the best of my students. In the mathematics and science areas there are a variety of instruction methods. For mathematics, I teach a student how to do a problem, then go over a problem together before finally allowing the student to solve one. An educator needs to adjust their teaching method with every student he/she works with and I believe that this is one skill that I am excellent at.
