A Little Bit About Me...

I have owned and operating my own bookkeeping/accounting/business management service for over thirty years. I have taught others how to use QuickBooks, set up filing systems, enter data base information and organize their finances. I have supported a variety of businesses and organizations including several non-profits. I have taught others about AP, AR, Payroll, Taxes, and other financial information.
I believe in explaining the concepts first and them allow the student to do the work themselves. I am open and friendly and clients enjoy being in the teaching environment. I practice patience and believe in giving a lot of positive reinforcement. My first visit is just an assessment of where the student began to get lost regardless of the age or level. More often that not, they have to memorize their fractions to decimal to percentage conversion from 1/2 to 1/12. Given this underlying knowledge allows me to focus on the subject at hand. I usually recommend purchasing a Spark Notes or something similar for the subject as a reference guide. I use examples from the book to review, and assist in homework. I do not do the homework for them, however, do ask how they will approach it before diving in. I add tips and tricks and different ways to approaching the problem. I also assist in anxiety control, study and organization habits.

A Little Bit About Me...

Upon matriculation at Colby, I enrolled in organic chemistry and decided to major in chemistry. I continued my studies in chemistry and additional areas of interest, including math, government, and economics. Before graduating I participated in an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates at UC Riverside. With the guidance of my primary investigator and a grad student, I gained experience doing research into the fabrication of nano-structures (in this case, reusable and gas-specific sensing devices, or an "e-nose"). Students provided a group presentation using PowerPoint and presented their results during a poster session. I have been tutoring chemistry at Clever Minds in Truckee, CA, since January 2010.
