A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that most subjects are not difficult to master. Most problems come from "under learning" the subject. Repetition may work for some subjects, but with math the student needs to understand WHY a process works. Once this is learned, the rest comes rather easily. When the student takes for granted a way to solve a problem, they are lost when the problem is presented in a different way. But, if the student understands the WHY, the presentation of the problem does not matter.
As a Cal Poly graduate with a BS in Computer Science, I have had to master most math and computer science course material. My experience is teaching math to mostly older teens and young adults. I have owned and operating my own bookkeeping/accounting/business management service for over thirty years. I have taught others how to use QuickBooks, set up filing systems, enter data base information and organize their finances. I have supported a variety of businesses and organizations including several non-profits. I have taught others about AP, AR, Payroll, Taxes, and other financial information.

Knowledge and skills are most permanent when we discover and create for ourselves, so I like to be a guide that leads the student to their own conclusions, rather than take over and lecture. I will be there to direct and support the student; I like when the student works at the board or on the paper instead of me, so that they retain what is being taught.
