My comments on tutoring Algebra : This might be the course I have the most fun with!

I started tutoring in high school for extra credit. I have primarily tutored in mathematics and general chemistry! I tutored a girl in Algebra 1 for a year, helped my best friend and her Mom with college mathematics, and worked through college algebra with my husband. In college I was a teachers assistant for general chemistry 1 and tutored in quantitative chemical analysis. Since then I have tutored a gentlemen for the math portion of his GED. Basically, I love the one-on-one opportunity to help people to find that "light-bulb moment" where the math and science is no longer torture, but instead it makes sense! :)

My comments on tutoring Algebra : I am taking technical math in college. Algebra knowledge is required for technical math.

I prefer teaching my students to speak first. Once the student is fluent in Spanish, reading, and writing is taught. I emphasize conversational speaking a lot. That is what will get the student to lose the fear, and become fluent. Speaking a language is all about confidence. I consider myself a good leader. I was class president for three years in high school. I was the captain of the football team, and I have always taught by example. Example is the best teacher and the best motivator. My comments on tutoring Algebra : I have tutored algebra in the past and feel comfortable in my abilities to describe concepts to those who are having trouble wrapping their heads around the "algebraic mindset"

I believe that a child cannot fully come to comprehend subject matter without having a chance to be immersed in it first. This philosophy lends to the hands-on, question-oriented form of teaching that I so firmly stand by. I realize that different people employ different strategies in coming to learn new material and I will adjust the way I teach as best I can in order to accommodate each and every individual detail. Much the same as the famous social psychologist Lev Vygotsky emphasized the zone of proximal development, I believe that education should not be approached from the standpoint of "teaching to the test" as much as it deserves to be about aiding a child in coming up with creative alternatives in an effort to master the concept in question and develop an intrinsic motivation to actually want to learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style revolves around how the child learns. I adapt my lesson's around how the child will be able to best learn the material. I want to see them grow and develop as much as they can.
I am now a teacher at a private school in Monona. I help aid a Preschool classroom and have my own classroom in the afternoon for students age four. I also run an after school program once the school day is done with and that incorporates 4 year-olds to seventh graders. I help students out with homework during that time. Before I started my teaching job, I was substituting in Madison and Verona Area School Districts. While in college I had many practicum's in different classrooms and would help students out inside and outside of the classroom. For the past two years, I nannied for a little boy and would help him out with his reading and any other homework he would have for the night.
