My comments on tutoring Algebra : I am taking technical math in college. Algebra knowledge is required for technical math.

I was born in the upper west side of Mexico City in 1996. I attended a private bilingual school (Colegio Cumbres) from kindergarten to my junior year. While I was attending high school in Mexico, I also took two courses a literature course and a course in reading comprehension and writing composition proficiency given by UAEM (Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico). I also earned some extra cash when I decided to become an English to Spanish and Spanish to English translator. I took this job as an independent translator. I started learning English when I was seven years old. I have two certificates in English awarded by Cambridge University which are, PET (Preliminary English Test) and FCE (First Certificate in English). My comments on tutoring Algebra : This might be the course I have the most fun with!

Very much based on working with what the student knows. I tend to start by having them explain to me what they are doing and what they think. I then provide some guidance and walk through a sample problem with them. I ask that they try another problem like it on their own and ask questions to prompt them as they work.
I started tutoring in high school for extra credit. I have primarily tutored in mathematics and general chemistry! I tutored a girl in Algebra 1 for a year, helped my best friend and her Mom with college mathematics, and worked through college algebra with my husband. In college I was a teachers assistant for general chemistry 1 and tutored in quantitative chemical analysis. Since then I have tutored a gentlemen for the math portion of his GED. I am now a teacher at a private school in Monona. I help aid a Preschool classroom and have my own classroom in the afternoon for students age four. I also run an after school program once the school day is done with and that incorporates 4 year-olds to seventh graders. I help students out with homework during that time. Before I started my teaching job, I was substituting in Madison and Verona Area School Districts. While in college I had many practicum's in different classrooms and would help students out inside and outside of the classroom. My comments on tutoring Algebra : I have tutored algebra in the past and feel comfortable in my abilities to describe concepts to those who are having trouble wrapping their heads around the "algebraic mindset"

I believe that a child cannot fully come to comprehend subject matter without having a chance to be immersed in it first. This philosophy lends to the hands-on, question-oriented form of teaching that I so firmly stand by. I realize that different people employ different strategies in coming to learn new material and I will adjust the way I teach as best I can in order to accommodate each and every individual detail. Much the same as the famous social psychologist Lev Vygotsky emphasized the zone of proximal development, I believe that education should not be approached from the standpoint of "teaching to the test" as much as it deserves to be about aiding a child in coming up with creative alternatives in an effort to master the concept in question and develop an intrinsic motivation to actually want to learn.
