My comments on tutoring Writing : I have taught taught writing for grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. I help prepare fourth grade students for the Nebraska State Accountability Writing assessment. As a part of this I taught an intervention writing group to go through the process of writing. I teach organization, sentence structure, voice, mechanics, grammar, etc.
I am able to teach students the writing process of creating a well organized piece that contains a beginning, middle, and end. I have found that using a graphic organizer (or four square writing) is a useful strategy to implement when teaching struggling writers.
I use various teaching styles within my classroom. I try to find how my student learns best and accommodate to their needs. All students learn differently, so I try to be flexible in my teaching style. I do like to make teaching as visual and hands on as I can.
I have been a teacher with CPS for four years. I am currently a Special Education teacher for grades K-5. I teach a caseload of 33 students ranging in abilities. I have a significant amount of experience teaching reading, math, and writing to struggling learners. In addition to working with students that have disabilities, I also have a degree in Elementary Education. I teach regular education students within my intervention groups throughout my school day.
