My original interest was teaching instrumental music. Although I changed majors and ultimately graduated with a BS in Computer Science, I have continued my interest in teaching, first by volunteer tutoring during college and later by helping adults learn to speak English. I eventually took an intensive summer course in teaching English to speakers of other languages, following which I spent over three years teaching conversational English in Central Asia. Upon returning to the States I worked for a few years for a literacy council, helping administratively and also teaching workplace English. In obtaining my master's degree in communication at the Elliott School of Communication at Wichita State University, I have acquired the necessitated skills for this position. I was a graduate teaching assistant and taught interpersonal communication and public speaking. I was also hired by the Communication Upward Bound program to teach English literature to high school students. I believe every person has her or his own learning style. The best way to get a child to understand her or his own potential is to get to know each individual student.
