A commercial banker by trade, I currently teach two (2) classes on financial literacy skills to legal immigrant refugees from India, Burma, and Cuba. This volunteer work is offered through the Catholic Charities arm of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. For me, teaching began in my senior year of high school, where I would lead extensive calculus groups. After entering college, where I obtained a Batchelors degree in Applied Mathematics, I tutored pre-calculus and differential equations. I then began to tutor math to at-risk high school students. For a period of more than 2 years I taught computer-related subjects, particularly those that would enable students to obtain Microsoft certifications. Currently I teach and tutor all school mathematics subjects as well as SAT math.
In my opinion my teaching would have to be considered unique. Usually I teach math in laymans terms and use analogie that students can relate to.
