A Little Bit About Me...

I started substitute teaching in 1983 while I was working on my Master's Degree at California State University, Long Beach. I have been a substitute teacher in Long Beach, Santa Barbara, Glendale, and Palm Springs. I have had experience as a long term substitute in Senior English for a year at Palm Springs High School, also in Palm Springs, I did six months as a Special Education teacher at Cree Middle School. While I was in Glendale, I worked a year at Allen Continuation High School teaching English and Social Studies. I have had extensive experience preparing lesson plans, grading papers, helping students understand subject matter and providing parents with information about their child's work in class.

I was a foster parent for fourteen years in which I spent numerous hours with each child weekly working with them to improve their academic skills. I taught a 4th/5th grade class in the 2006/2007 school year. I graduated with a 3.92 GPA where I excelled as a writer. I currently write the company newsletter at my place of employment. I love to teach and hope to be able to spend more time doing so. My BS is in Human Services.I also have added alcohol and drug studies to that degree. I will be taking a certification test very soon to acquire a RAS drug and alcohol certification. I began my career as an interior designer with a BA in Fine Arts and Certificate of Design. My love for learning brought me to earn a Master's Degree on scholarship in teaching. This degree prepared me to teach pre-k students to eighth grade. In order to teach all students I acquired an endorsement of English as a second language and a gifted endorsement. I have had the privilege of teaching my colleagues how to teach writing. My desire to teach for excellence has been rewarded both individually and to the learning community I practiced in. I have taught in three states with teaching credentials from each.

Here is Some Good Information About Florida Writes Tutoring

The Florida Writing Assessment was implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 as required by a law passed by the 1990 legislature. Does your student need a tutor? Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive).
