I spent one year as a day to day substitute teacher working all over York County in various special education classrooms. My second year was spent as a long term substitute at an alternative high school for boys where I taught all subjects. My third year I started teaching Specialized Preschool and did this for many years until I retired last year. My students had many exceptionalities. I had typical students visit my classroom every week to read to my students. I did leave Lincoln Intermediate Unit #12 one year to teach in Baltimore, Maryland. I taught kindergarten-first grade to children with Autism and speech issues. I have 3 grown children of my own who I helped in school.
I have a very hands on approach because I worked with small children. I believe children learn by doing. If they are interested, you won't have behavior issues.

I have worked in the graphic design/advertising field for 10 years and have been drawing all my life. I run the gamut from Photoshop and Illustrator to pencil, charcoal and watercolor. I think it's important to know how to build a file well so that it is enabled for printing, while not compromising creativity. With drawing it is important to draw what you see before you can invent. Anatomy is important.
I like to draw students out with questions and get them thinking for themselves. In order to handle situations in the real world one needs appropriate problem solving skills. When I show something to a student I want them to repeat what I've just done and then explain why this works - but I want them to also try and find another way that will work. (If there is one)

It's imperative to listen and understand a students challenges. Reviewing their previous work and giving a current test is a good indicator of the situation. I believe in practice and examples as the clearest path to success. I don't hand deliver answers and I make the process towards answers engaging. I love the art of teaching. I work with the student on an individual level, tailoring my methods to achieve maximum learning comprehension. Usually, I prefer to have the student figure things out for themselves using guided questions and logic. Often people will not consider an infant or toddler a "functioning human being" until the child can speak. This is so inaccurate! I taught one of my daughters to read at age four. As part of the requirement to be a member of Pi Delta Phi, the French National Honor Society at UCF, I was required to tutor French students of all levels on a regular basis. A Little Bit About Me...

I love children. While attending high school and college I babysat several children from four months old up to 13 years old. During My senior year of high school I was a teachers aid for A freshman level art class and would often work one on one with students who had questions or needed some extra help. I don't have any professional experience with teaching children but I would love to gain some.
