I am a Dance teacher, choreographer and performer as well as a Yoga instructor. I've been dancing for over 20 years and teaching for about 10. I received a Bachelor's in Dance from Brigham Young University in 2011, with an emphasis in Modern/Contemporary. Since graduating I've been teaching, choreographing and dancing professionally and will continue doing so for as long as is humanly possible. I teach mostly Intermediate/Advanced level tap, jazz, modern/contemporary (but am open to teaching all levels) and Beginner/Intermediate level ballet. I also teach Vinyasa Yoga and believe any type and level of dancer can improve tremendously physically and mentally through a Yoga practice. And, lastly, I play the piano on the side and have taught beginner level piano. I have 17 years of experience playing the piano and play for the children at church as well as the choir.

Creative, energetic tutor with special needs experience

I homeschooled a gifted third grader, including administering standardized end-of-grade test, for 1 year. I have tutored homeschooled first and third graders in math, reading, writing, social studies, and art for the last 6 months. I tutored a 8-12-year-old with autism spectrum for 4 years. I provided respite for children with disabilities for several years. I have coached Special Olympics swimming for 11 years for teens and adults. I have informally given piano lessons. I teach exercise to kids/teens with diabetes and their families at the Kerr Family YMCA.

While building on their strengths, I attempt to change their perspective towards the course material that seems difficult. I am caring, kind, and like to break things down to explain them at the level that people are functioning on. I believe that all people learn differently and it is a good teacher's job to find each child's leaning style and create opportunities for all children to be engaged in a way they will respond to.
I have a passion for children. I have a degree in Child and Adolescent Development, and have spent the past year working with low-income preschoolers. While working on my undergrad I was given the opportunity to be a teaching assistant for a freshman college level film theory and design class. During this opportunity I was responsible for grading the daily work of our students, as well as being a resource for the students design projects. I taught lectures based on film theory and design, as well as specific pieces of film.
