I am most familiar with conversation, as a means of relating information and testing understanding. I think that a through understanding in any subject comes about when a student can recognize the important concepts, and how they relate to each other, and speak those concepts in words which they understand--while gaining the vocabulary and proficiency as each subject demands. Most of all, I am an interested learner, in a variety of subjects, and I am excited to share my interest with others. I have a good sense of when I am being understood, and when I am not. I received my Bachelors of Arts degree from Willamette University, where I majored in politics and minored in economics. Then, I think you need to understand the youth learning styles and to find out where they are with their knowledge and then begin from there. I recently relocated to Portland from the New York City / New Jersey area after working in the e-marketing department at Carnegie Hall. I've studied piano throughout my life, starting at age 7, and graduated Westminster Choir College in Princeton NJ with a Bachelor of Arts in Music in 2005. I worked for one year at the TLC, or Teaching Learning Center, where upper classmen would tutor other students taking courses they had already taken and done quite well in. I tutored mostly computer courses (programming, excel, etc), but there were also days when I was asked to tutor Calculus.
