My comments on tutoring GED : Passed virtual testing.

My method of tutoring is to work with students where they are and add to their skills, to accomplish the final outcome, preferably an "A" or "B." Some students are visual learners and some are informational learners, or some students combine the two. The potential I see in students is what I try to bring out and have them realize they are capable of going a step further, to reach their goal. The importance of education and the students' continuance of same cannot be stressed enough.
I started out tutoring elementary students in basic math and English grammar while I attended college part time in the 1980's. I Help Students Tackle Math With Confidence!

I have enjoyed the personal gratification of tutoring since high school. Since I was 15 years old, I have shared my knowledge and love of mathematics with people of all ages. I attended Spelman College and Georgia Institute of Technology, where I received my Bachelor of Science in both Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering. I also tutored my peers at these institutions. I have been a tutor for 23 years and I have taught Adult Basic Education for 12 years. I am still continuing my education to receive a Masters degree and plan to get my PhD. I work for a community college and have done advising, enrollment, testing, phone directory, and student sevices. I have attended many professional development workshops on education.
Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. GED is one of my top subjects!

I teach to the individual as well as to the group. In the classroom, I use the chalk/marker board, text and handout materials, and computers if available. Outside the classroom (libraries or other public meeting place, I bring my own instructional materials.

A Little Bit About Me...

I find in counseling I have to lead people to come up with their own solutions without telling them the answer. This involves showing them how to get there and teaching them the skills. If any of my friends or coworkers would describe me it would be as a patient person. I think it takes a lot of patience to tutor especially if the student is having trouble grasping a concept. You have to be creative in how you explain it to them. Everyone has a different learning style whether it is audio or visual. It’s important to be able to impart knowledge to the student smoothly and only to answer the asked questions. Too much information can cause a student to “overload”. This can make the student afraid to ask questions in the future or to think that the topic is so difficult. A good tutor will try to simplify things and brief the answers so he keeps the child interested to learn more.
