I am a graduate of the University of Florida and have been fortunate enough to excel in school throughout my life. I started tutoring in middle school and continued throughout my college career. I earned my bachelors degree in Accounting so I would like to believe my education is well-rounded. My favorite/strongest subject is math but am versatile in all subject areas. I relate well with children as I have two younger siblings (high school and middle school) that I often tutor as well.
I tend to use a hands on approach to teaching. I put learning in the perspective of the students life into an experience that he/she can relate to. I asses the level of clarity needed based on the students response and actions. I like to teach visually which also helps for memorization and repetition. I take as many breaks as necessary for the student so that they do not get frustrated or dis ... read more

I love teaching and motivating people. Learning is very important for me and I believe that all people should receive a well rounded education. My style of teaching is that of discovery, where I help students learn from their mistakes. I like to take them down the path of self-discovery where they feel safe enough to make mistakes but, more importantly, learn how to think critically for themselves.

I graduated from Davidson College with a major in economics, which has enabled me to gain an understanding of both math and social science. I tutored during my junior and senior years in North Carolina and I've also done private tutoring in Gainesville. In addition, I coached 4-12 year olds how to swim. If I can teach 4 year olds who are screaming and kicking how to swim I can teach someone math or ecnomoics.
I really enjoy teaching all ages. From my background in coaching young children how to swim I've become well adjusted to dealing with difficult situatioins in a learning environment. However, I always want to provide my students with the best learning environment possible. I'm extremely patient and I believe that a teacher should be willing to do whatever is possible to help their students understand the material and learn.

I am currently enrolled in the graduate engineering program at the University of Florida, in which I plan to graduate in the spring of 2012. I served as a graduate teaching assistant while studying for my graduate degree. It gave me an opportunity to lecture on accounting and finance to undergraduate students. My favorite approach is to take it slow. I find that to teach a student a specific field of knowledge there is almost always a hindering block that cannot be seen at first glance. For instance, a student who is having trouble with division of decimal numbers may not realize that the whole issue stems from his lack of understanding of the multiplication tables. Allowing the student to show you what he or she knows and watching the student attempt the problem step-by-step will reveal this hidden block. Once this hidden block is taken care of, the information will flow easily and naturally.
Throughout my education I have always prided myself in being an excellent student. Although this extended to all my subjects, my most passionate courses have always been in mathematics. This has been true from elementary all the way through college. Once in high school, I began tutoring students in ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in interactive teaching, where the student is as involved as the teacher. My satisfaction comes from watching students discover knowledge that they had previously thought unavailable.
