A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Vanderbilt in 2004 with a major in philosophy and a minor in geology. My overall GPA was 3.674/4.000. I enjoy using both sides of my brain, so to speak. Through philosophy, I mastered formalities of the English language and developed an aptitude for critical and logical thinking. Through geology, I focused on the practical through the application of mathematical and scientific concepts. I have tutored students in math, English, and the sciences. There is no subject area I can't tackle!
I enjoy helping others understand concepts that they are struggling with. It is very gratifying when a student has that "a ha" moment. I am a little strict with instruction. If a student is not paying attention or has not completed an assignment that I've asked him/her to do, I will not overlook it. I think that, in the interest of the end goal of improving grades, ... read more

I am a student at the University of Florida and am confident in my ability to provide an excellent education. I have some experience in tutoring children in reading and basic math, and have been a "Big Sister" type figure. I excel in writing, grammar, and the Spanish language, and have experience with Advanced Placement (AP) style essays, technical writing, philosophy papers, speeches, general essays, and essays in Spanish. I am efficient in basic algebra, geometry and science, and have studied AP Calculus and chemistry. I also studied piano for seven years, and am currently learning to play the guitar.
I love helping and teaching children, and am eager for the opportunity to encourage learning. I am patient and sensitive, and understand that each student has a different approach to learning. I also understand that for many, learning can be frustrating and discouraging, but I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Being a Ph.D. candidate and appointed research assistant, I very much realize the importance of true comprehension of a subject. Not only do I hold two B.S. degrees in Applied Mathematics and Chemical Engineering but I also carry credits to the equivalent of a Non-Thesis Masters in Applied Mathematics and am one course shy of a minor in Chemistry. I have tutored groups of students for Sylvan Learning Centers, conducted one-on-one sessions with Educational Enrichment and independently, and prepared and delivered lectures for advanced undergraduate chemical engineering courses. I am capable and experienced in tutoring all levels of mathematics, chemistry, chemical engineering, physics and materials science.
I am a very enthusiastic tutor and, as I stated in the previous section, believe teaching in such a way that the student gains a true mastery of the given subject. In a sense, ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a B.S in Animal Biology. I have had to take extensive science and math courses. Additionally, I have extensive experience working with children. Especially those that are from low income families and different cultures. I have volunteered tutoring children after school. Additionally, I have taken several classes about learning styles, teaching styles, and study skills to improve my own academic achievement. This allows me to better communicate information in the different ways needed. Following, I have experience working with children with learning disabilities, particularly autism.
I really like working with children from low income families. I think each child has a different interest and way of learning. I try to discover these learning styles before I begin the tutoring process. I try to allow them to be comfortable and having fun during our sessions. Most of t ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I believe the best way to get ideas across to students and to help them become tangible, is to engage as many of the senses as possible. I realize every student has unique necessities when it comes to understanding different subjects, but I have found that the best way to teach is to create curiosity about the topic being taught and to apply the learning to real life. I use diagrams and real life stories that engage the curiosity of the student. I am patient and meticulous when teaching and make sure the student understands a matter before moving on to something more advanced. Teaching is more than drilling facts, principles, and formulas into the students. It is also giving them the tools necessary to perform critical thinking and conduct research on their own.
In 2005, I earned a Master of Science in Animal Sciences from the University of Florida. I have done a lot of research an ... read more

From a young age, I greatly enjoyed school and excelling in all that I put my mind to. To this end, I have earned a BS in Psychology and a minor in biology, both with Honors, and am applying to continue my education in graduate studies. Through my undergraduate work I have gained a greater understanding in biology, math, and writing papers and research manuscripts. I love being able to give other students the passion that I have for learning and understanding something new. During my undergraduate work in psychology and training to be a tutor, I learned the different types of learning styles and how to test for them. A Little Bit About Me...

A great benefit to teaching so many Biology labs was working with the professors to accomadate their lecture material and create a hands-on application for my students. I found this a wonderful opportunity to take a lot of information and to synthesize it in such a fashion that students could understand a complex process in a simple way. For example, visual demostrations were a favorite of mine, where you could see the light of 'understanding' in my student's eyes. In addition, I'm always very clear on what are the expectations for exams and pop quizzes, so that studying can be more focused.
While earning my PhD in Biology, it was a requirement that I teach at least 3 Biology labs each semester. I focused on labs for Biology majors, so that I've mastered the foundation material so well, I can repeat it in my sleep! In addition, my supervision of undergraduate researchers in my lab ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have specialized in middle school and high school tutoring in the areas of; Earth Science, Physical Science, Anatomy, Biology, World History, American History, and Social Studies for five years. I am currently in college for my BA in secondary education for high school history. I have tutored people as young as 8 years of age and as old as 42 years of age. I feel I am greatly qualified for a tutoring position in any of the above mentioned areas.
I use several different forms of teaching that cant be placed in to one description. I find it to be more effective if i allow the students to show me something they are pationate about wether it be money, candy, heros, anything. I enjoy not being limited to one form of understanding for a subject and being able to find a new way to teach it.
