A Little Bit About Me...

As a political science and social policy major I have been required to read, research and write collegiate level papers. I strive for excellence in my writing and ability to help others improve their writing skills. As a health educator, I did lesson planning, creative activities and group facilitation. I also provided individual counseling to those who required more one-on-one assistance. Currently, I am a counselor and instructor for an Educational Opportunity Program in higher education. All children are students; they can learn. The question is how best do they learn? I have used many differing styles from rote memorization through self-paced self-education. I encourage students to see the wonder and "mystery" (there really isn't any mystery) of Math, regardless of the level, in the real world. To that aid, I try to present real world problems at levels the student can understand. For lower level students, I investigate with them the development of the linear equations involved in setting up a relationship between two factors. A higher level student would solve multiple linear equations. A height vs. time linear relationship then can become quadratic, thus involving sports as an application.
