I am currently in college for Business Management, and I am also studying Psychology. When I finish I want to work with teenagers. I am a strong proponent of critical thinking skills. For me, teaching is much more than being a content expert, but also a patient, yet demanding coach. Rote memorization is never enough; a thorough understanding of the underlying concepts and facts is crucial in achieving true mastery of a subject. The dynamic presentation style from my classroom work is brought to one-on-one tutoring as well.
My teaching experience began almost as soon as my higher education did, beginning as a Red Cross CPR instructor and then a volunteer tutor while an undergraduate. I make things simple and use things that they already know to build on to get them to understand the material. I like to teach the children pneumatic devices to help them remember the material1.
