July 2011 I graduated from University of West Georgia in Carrollton with a B.S. in Middle Grades Education. I began substituting for the Heard County School System in August 2011. When I was in middle and high school, I served as a peer tutor. I guess you can say that I have always had a desire to teach.

What I have learned working with students is that many do not learn in the same manner. I beleive in what is called top process learning. Given the student a concept and allowing them to explore the possibilities of how one arrives at such a concept has allowed deeper critical thinking and strategic planning. However, this method is not predominately taught in Georgia education system. I have found this method to be very effective. The other method is patience. Students who strugge with their academic learning usually are having other areas of difficulty which may be social learning. Having clinical training allows me to make a more accurate assessment.

I began teaching in the Valdosta City School System also being a reading teacher for students with problems. Gwinnett County School System (1974-1990). I conducted workshops on teaching reading and writing to Kdg.-1st graders. I received inservice training classes in writing, reading, and mentoring young teachers.
