Mentoring style of teaching.
Teaching Philosophy One’s teaching philosophy is continually evolving over time. Evolution occurs because teaching is an ongoing process. This process has brought me to develop my own personal teaching philosophy. The philosophy I have created is one that is student centered. My classrooms have become student centered. I have decided to acquaint myself with the needs and expectations of my students. The classroom culture I desire is one where my students may know they are safe and secure to learn. They need to know they are allowed to fail because one truly learns from one’s failures. Working with students and education has been a part of my life for about 11 years. I first began doing so in high school, around 1999 working as a volunteer with the YMCA. Eventually I became a counselor and would work my way up to Camp Director. I am proud to say that I am the first of my family to attend a University. Currently I am a senior at Cuny Lehman College in the Bronx, NY where I study English Literature and minor in Secondary Education. Recently I have just returned from studying at the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras. The year abroad helped me to better understand my culture and gain a stronger grip on my native language. Having a BSEE and graduating on the dean's list, my tutoring experience started in college. I tutored other students in Math, Algebra, Calculus, and English. I recently tutor computer illiterate people in Microsoft, and how to send and receive email. I have extensive writing and oral skills to put together proper sentence structures for all ages. In the last 10 years I've tutored mostly essay/report research and composition. For children it has mostly been reading, writing, spelling, proper speech, math, and earth science.

Upon my decision to return to college and obtain my BS degree, it was discovered that I possessed an uncanny, natural talent involving all aspects of the studies surrounding English. Reading, comprehension, symbolism, poetry, creative writing, poise, maturitym ,ect. After that placement exam, it was decided that I did not have to take any English courses, or, I would take more advanced courses. I did choose the latter. Throughout the last 10 years, I have helped my husband, brother, all of my children, etc. I have tutored them on how to write a well developed paper on their topic of choice, and have it read showing the expertise of the writer. I possess the same talents when it comes to proper grammar. I also teach Catholisim to the 8th grade once per week for 2 hours. I prepare them for the sacrament of confirmation. That is very challenging.
