As a non-traditional student I gave a good deal of thought as to what career to go into. I love working with students and enjoy providing an environment that is customized based on the student's individual learning style. I believe all students have a desire to succeed, but frequently struggling students have lost touch with that part of themselves. I love to share my knowledge and share my skills with others in a way to help them learn and grow. The way that I do this is by: 1) evaluate the child's skills, 2) acknowledge the child's skills and build his/her confidence as a stepping stone for future learning, 3) work to add to the current skills by adding to them. My greatest tutoring experience was teaching a mature adult man to read. I was able to improve his life by teaching him reading skills. His driving skills improved because he learned to read road signs. I also helped him build life skills such as learning how to write checks and balance his checkbook.
