At the elementary level I have 2 years experience as a K,1st and 2nd grade combined teacher, three years as a 1st grade teacher and 1 year as combined 1st and 2nd grade teacher. In the area of special education I have taught students from age 3 to 16 with Mental Disabilities for 8 years. Currently I am working as a substitute teacher for the Carlisle Community Schools and Des Moines Public Schools. My teaching style is that I believe all students can learn but that there are different learning styles and we must match the correct learning style with the student. As a young R.O.T.C cadet, I was very driven to excel in my college education. On my way to becoming a young Army Officer, I earned two bachelor degrees, BA in Communications and BA in Accoutning. While I earned my bachelor's degree in communication from Loyola, I also worked as an Academic coach for high school students. I spent a year tutoring students for an academic competition that tested all skill areas including, writing, math, history and science. I spent the summer of 2006 working closely with people with disabilities. I perfected my teaching skills through hands-on learning/teaching techniques. I believe in setting goals and working to ensure they are accomplished. In my opinion, learning should never feel like a boring chore. I recently earned my bachelor's degree in English, from Iowa State University. I have always helped friends/peers with English courses, whether it be writing, editing, proofreading, etc. I have also helped many people with music, being a musician myself. I have studied musical theory and played several instruments since I was in elementary school. I would feel most comfortable tutoring in music and English subjects. I love working with anyone who is willing to learn.
