My comments on tutoring Political Science : One of the few classes I wish I could retake in college.

I obtained a B.S. in Biology, with a concentration in aquatic science, from Wittenberg University in 2006. During my undergraduate studies, I tutored elementary students in math and science twice a week for two years. After college, I moved into the marine science profession. In August of 2008, I started teaching High School Biology I, Earth and Space Science, and Physical Science to students in Polk County. In addition, after school hours were spent with two students taking AP Biology classes. Both students achieved a 4 or higher on their placement exams. I have always enjoyed teaching and helping others to learn. I don't believe in "I can't do it" or "I can't learn". I believe that anyone can learn anything as long as they're willing to learn and put an effort to do so. What is different is that some people have more ability than other to learn certain tasks, but eventually, everyone can learn. Learning Can be Fun!

I like to allow the student to read the material once and clarity any areas that need more explanation. Then I will allow them to answer questions from the material read and help them where needed to choose the correct answer and understand the reason for the answers. I like to reward a certain level of correct answers with points that can be redeemed for interesting small prizes. I also consider myself very patient and interested in the student having a strong foundation for future learning.

15 years experience in a broad variety of subjects!

I have a way of perceiving the difficulty the student has, and am able to explain the material in a simple way that makes it easy for students to grasp. A Little Bit About Me...

The reason I am involved in education is because I love the process of learning. Being a tutor is more than just telling someone what to do or how to do it; you must be friendly and you must let the person know that you care about their success. Seeing the expression on a students face when they "get it" is priceless. Tutors must be able to scaffold students, to help students incrementally until the student is capable of becoming an independent learner.
As an undergraduate I attended Elon University in North Carolina. During my tenure there I tutored at the local elementary school as well as with the Boys and Girls Club. Writing has been a very important part of my life since I was little. My father is an author with over 20 young adult books published and he instilled in me the passion to read and write from a young age. I still edit his books to this day.
