I am a recent graduate of the University of Hartford. I have a dual certification in Special Education and Elementary Education. I have taught in both Urban and Suburban areas in grades K, 1, 2,5,6, and 7. I have also tutored children in grade 4 and peers at the college level. I have tutored all elementary subjects and at the college level I have tutored in English and World History.
I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in elementary school and now that I have graduated I am excited to finally live out my childhood dreams. I am very enthusiastic, patient, and creative. I feel as though all children can learn, it's just a matter of figuring out what learning style best suits them. I truly believe in the use of positive reinforcement whenever possible.

A Little Bit About Me...

A diverse education at Wesleyan University has prepared me to tutor many high school subjects. I earned my BA at Wesleyan in Music but I almost double majored in Environmental Science. The high expectations of professors at Wesleyan pushed me to greatly improve my writing ability, with my music thesis earning me honors in music. Environmental sciences sharpened my science and mathematic ability. Extensive courses in music prepared me to tutor music students in any background or concentration.
I greatly enjoy finding a way to inspire a child to understand the problem at hand. Through from my experience in grade school and my observation of students that attend tough schools I've realized the monotonous class schedule and disciplinary philosophy of most schools deflates most student's desire to succeed. While I can relate to this rebellious reaction I also know that it is no ex ... read more

I have had a successful career as a medical scientist in hospital, government, and reference laboratories in the northeast and southern U.S., holding bench, supervisory, and leadership positions. I have two college degrees with published articles, and two national certifications, all in the sciences. For the past eight years I have been a substitute teacher and tutor in thirteen urban, suburban, and rural public school systems in Connecticut. I enjoy helping elementary school children improve their reading, writing, and math skills in a one-on-one setting the most. I also like to work with enthusiastic students (any level) who are science-oriented, and enjoy introducing them to scientific methods, experimental data, and microscopy.
My goal is to help your child achieve success. I explain real-life applications of the subject (i.e., metric system--repair of foreign cars.) I enco ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I studied education at Montclair State University for 4 years but I have a always been a teacher. From leadership roles in high school to corporate training, I have a talent for being able to boil subjects down to their basics and provide true understanding. My strongest subjects are Math, Music, and Literature. I can also do work in Science, English and Humanities/Social Studies.
I teach people to learn and find answers on their own. I guide the student through exercises in any field and try to avoid straight memorization by putting the subject is some kind of context. I keep up with current trends and technology and can use that to aid in relationships and teaching.

After over decade of classroom teaching and preceding experiences teaching as a manager, I have developed a style that would be considered eclectic, at once rooted in the cognitive behavioral and infused with existentialist expectations. The key element is to reach each unique individual, assessing strengths and weaknesses, and facilitate an atmosphere in which students can find personal success while engaging the group dynamic. I spend a great deal of time examining just what it is I am doing as an educator, how I feel about outcomes and how I can adjust curriculum, practices, and in my case, administrative functioning to better serve my charges. Existing educational practices in no small way determine the modes and methods one uses to engage learners in and out of the classroom. However, teaching style and empathetic relationships to a great extent determine how students are engag ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have extensive experience working with children and adults in teaching environments. I believe every single person deserves a chance to succeed. Sometimes it's just a matter of a little extra attention that makes the difference. Sometimes a person needs something explained a different way. Regardless of your child's skill level, I am a kind and patient tutor who will take the time to reach your child where they are. There's no greater feeling than seeing a child "get it."
I am delighted to offer my services as a tutor for your child. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English and Fine Arts and a Masters of Science in Education, K-6. I am a fully certified CT K-6 teacher. I am the author of 10 published children's books. As such, I am very well-skilled in reading and writing assessment and assistance for your child. I was more of an instructor than a teacher. I was a day camp counselor at Solway House parent/child resort in Saugerties N.Y. I instructed kids how to swim, dive, play various sports and gave dancing lessons to the guests. As a high school student I tutored 7th and 8th graders in an after school community center. I was one of a few staff at the University of Connecticut to instruct graduates and staff in the use of the various electronic facilites available to them.
I feel children are very self-aware and are very vulnerable to positive and negative feedback. Therefore, no matter how little progress is made, praise them. If no progerss is made or if an issue needs to re-addressed, praise them..."That was great, but let's try it this way!" I feel that you are positive, smiling, and they believe that you believe in them, 9 out of 10 kids will follow you!

A Little Bit About Me...

As a hardworking individual with excellent communication skills, I would like to explore the possibility of putting my talents and experience to help children. Currently I have a successful and satisfying career with Artwell Gallery, a nonprofit community based art gallery. However I am looking forward to embarking on a new career. I hold a BA in Radio, Television, and Film from Rowan University. For three years I worked in a pre-school teaching Art to students aged three to five.
I had once been told by a very seasoned teacher that "If you can not go through the front door find an open window." She opened my eyes to creative, and interesting ways to stimulate young minds. I love helping children learn, and finding their open window. A great teacher can incorporate different styles of teaching to adapt to a child's learning ability.

I understand that children (and adults) have differennt learning styles and try to tailor my approach to the specific needs of the student. The bilingual students I teach have a unique challenge in that the letters of the alphabet represent different sounds in English versus Spanish. I have a great rapport with the children and because they are receptive to my teaching style have been very successful.
Although I have taught, coached and tutored aorking professionals I only have one year experience actually teaching. Since I have been unemployed (July, 2008)I have been volunteering in a bilingual second grade at Hill Central Music Academy in New Haven, CT

I have over 15 years experience in the Accounting field as well as have owned several successful businesses in the IT industry of which I functioned in the daily business operations and all financial accounting duties. Through my University’s thorough teacher preparation program, I worked with general education students and students with disabilities. I promote the development and well being of all individuals through my planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate programs, emphasizing learning through play and creative activities. I recently graduated in May 2008 from Salve Regina University with a Bachelors of Science and a degree in Early Childhood Education, and a minor in Special Education. I completed a full semester, plus more volunteer work, of student teaching in Portsmouth, RI. I’ve also had the opportunity to work for a daycare and preschool, where I worked excessively with, and tutored, children of general education as well as those with autism, down’s-syndrome and other special needs.
