I have worked with teenagers, young adults and older students returning to college. I work especially well with students who have a lack of confidence about their academic or intellectual abilities. May students have told me years after taking my courses that they would not have made it to graduation without my help. I also served as a drama director at one of my colleges and produced 4 highly successful full-length plays. Ten years after one of the productions the entire cast planned a surprise reunion for me at a local restaurant. I could ask for greater 'applause' for my teaching efforts.

I greatly enjoy finding a way to inspire a child to understand the problem at hand. Through from my experience in grade school and my observation of students that attend tough schools I've realized the monotonous class schedule and disciplinary philosophy of most schools deflates most student's desire to succeed. While I can relate to this rebellious reaction I also know that it is no excuse for not trying very hard in school because the main path to success as a young adult is a high school diploma with excellent grades. I was more of an instructor than a teacher. I was a day camp counselor at Solway House parent/child resort in Saugerties N.Y. I instructed kids how to swim, dive, play various sports and gave dancing lessons to the guests. As a high school student I tutored 7th and 8th graders in an after school community center. I was one of a few staff at the University of Connecticut to instruct graduates and staff in the use of the various electronic facilites available to them.

Although I have taught, coached and tutored aorking professionals I only have one year experience actually teaching. Since I have been unemployed (July, 2008)I have been volunteering in a bilingual second grade at Hill Central Music Academy in New Haven, CT
I understand that children (and adults) have differennt learning styles and try to tailor my approach to the specific needs of the student.
