My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : Was a Marine Biology minor in college. I also worked for over a year and half as a Marine Mammal Biologist.

I obtained a B.S. in Biology, with a concentration in aquatic science, from Wittenberg University in 2006. During my undergraduate studies, I tutored elementary students in math and science twice a week for two years. After college, I moved into the marine science profession. In August of 2008, I started teaching High School Biology I, Earth and Space Science, and Physical Science to students in Polk County. In addition, after school hours were spent with two students taking AP Biology classes. Both students achieved a 4 or higher on their placement exams. My tutored students reported an increase in their ability to record class notes, study, and take tests. My previous tutoring experiences have included subjects such as; elementary science, elementary math, Algebra (I & II), Geometry, Pre- Calculus, Anatomy, Physiology, Biology (both College and HS level), HS Chemistry, basic w ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

During my year as an AmeriCorps VISTA at the Earth Ethics Institute, a non-profit organization at Miami Dade College, I was responsible for the successful execution of five high-profile programs. I strengthened my ability to multitask and was able to effectively implement each program’s components at their full potential and capabilities. I became accustomed to working independently under strict deadlines and overseeing many service-learning college students who assisted with events. As many of these service-learners regarded me as a role-model, I committed myself to bringing out their full potentials while mentoring them through their college experiences. I was considered the unofficial technological assistant of my workplace due to my proficiency at Microsoft Office and my ability to work at an exceedingly fast pace. In addition to this, my co-workers often request that I overview ... read more

15 years experience in a broad variety of subjects!

I have been tutoring for over 15 years both in students homes or at public locations such as coffee shops or the public library. My education and experience are broad. I was educated at "Ivy League" level schools and purposefully educated myself in a large variety of the humanities, which in essence all tie together. Basic courses up through most High School material outside of the Humanities are not difficult. Actually, while my education has been primarily in the Humanities, the material I see the most in tutoring is Algebra and Geometry!
I have a way of perceiving the difficulty the student has, and am able to explain the material in a simple way that makes it easy for students to grasp. I have a good rapport with my student and have had several that have told me that I am the best teacher they have ever had(which didn't hurt my ego!!) I also have a good sense of humor whic ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate witha focus on science, I have learned to develop unique ways to enrich, engage, and excite students about science. I not only have a Bachelors of Science in Natural Resource Sciences, but I have many years of experience educating youth about all aspects of the sciences. I have learned what srategies work with youth so they can feel comfortable int he learning process, as well. Over the past three years I have tutored students in Biology, Zoology, English, Reading, and the FCAT.
I learned quickly in my career that all children learn in unique ways...what works for one does not necessarily work for another. I use diagrams, pictures, examples, stories, and labs to teach students in a way that excites and engages them. I generally have a good relationship with my students and strive to make learning fun and rewarding. My philosophy is that every child is capable of achie ... read more

I have earned a bachelors degree in Business Administration as well as a masters in Finance. This education not only allowed me to gain the knowledge but learn to apply it. I am able to tutor not only in the sciences but also the arts. Throughout my volunteer experience in helping students of all ages with their study, I have learned to instruct students how to study successfully and get them through the areas in which they are having difficulty.
Assisting students with their study has been the most rewarding experience, which I hope to continue. I first teach the students how to study so that they are able to fully understand the material, grasp it, and be able to apply it, and not have to memorize purely for that purpose. I have been able to apply a few simple steps with the students which have proven effective and help in any subject. I love working with children and see t ... read more

Since I have been closely associated with ITES in schools, I find especially challenging and motivating working with children of all ages because they are the most innovative and have a creative bent of mind if channelized in the right direction and it is up to the tutors to extract this enthusiasm and goad them to excel. I make my lessons informative and interesting via PowerPoint presentations and also like to make it interactive using various online tools thereby capturing the attention of children.
Change is the only constant of all things. Commenced my computer career as a Trainer in ITES to Managing trainers, a complete circle indeed in 12+ years of my professional career. Starting out as a trainer fresh out of school, and graduating into ITES after a decently long stint in the IT industry was a very interesting and memorable journey. Presently, I have been working as an IT c ... read more

My scholarly and practical experience is in Marine Biology and Chemistry. I have experience teaching adults, children, and adolescents in various settings from in a swimming pool, at animal exhibits, to in the classroom. For the past two years I have enjoyed sharing my knowledge of Science and Math with my students and motivating them to explore the various facets of the vast field of Science.
My experience teaching children started in the water. That is a difficult place to start as many children fear the water. I quickly learned that individual students learn in different ways and at different paces. After studying Marine Biology in an academic setting I finally became able to share my passion for science and knowledge for math with students in a way that enabled me to not only share knowledge, but motivate students to become passionate about the subjects I find so interesti ... read more

I was a music specialist for one semester. It was a great experience that I truly enjoyed. I taught grades K-5. I was responsible for creating my own lesson plans and activities for the 40 minutes of music class. I introduced recorders to the 5th grade. Then I put together a booklet for them to teach themselves how to play more songs. They looked forward to working on this summer project independently. I tutored 5th and a 3rd graders this last year. A fifth grade student of mine was falling behind in her work load and brought home a below average report card during the first quarter of school. After my help her grades climbed to almost the A/B honor roll. Her parents were pleased with her improved grades, attitude, and self concept.
I enjoy meeting new students and learning what their individual needs are to better teach them the concepts they need to know. I individua ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am an experienced teacher, having taught in both the private and public sectors. I have taught Social Studies and English as well as three years as a head debate coach. I have extensive skills in literature and grammar as well as history. I have tutored in all elementary subjects as well as grammar, literature and history.
I love teaching. I believe that teachers make the most impact in a child's life and often change the course of their lives. I find that students learn differently and like to incorporate audio/visual teaching with hands-on projects. I believe that children learn best when they enjoy what they are experiencing, so I try to make my lessons enjoyable and informative.

A Little Bit About Me...

Since my days as a math tutor in college for high school students, I knew that I had the ability to explain numbers and abstract information to students across the demographic. I have a BS in Occupational Therapy, so I have the ability to functionally apply science information. I have a professional teaching license through the Florida Department of Education in Biology as well. In my current teaching position I monitor labs in which students take classes through online programs, many of these students require assistance in math, which I have more than adequately assisted them with to obtain their credit. I feel that my articulate style is also is a trait that is necessary to assist with students in essay writing.
My teaching style is all about application and functionality. How do I apply it to real life situations, so that the student can better remember it. That is my firs ... read more

I like children and i feel really comfortable while being with them, teaching them, i believe they are all smart , the difference between them is the way we teach them, how we transfer the educational message. I belive that if we give the children the convenient education, the appropriate way we will achieve the excellence in teaching. This is the reason why i believe in them i am patient with them and i am ready to give all i can to make a difference in their education.
I was very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I graduated from UCF with a Bachelors in Communicative Disorders (speech therapy). I love english and science and found this to be a perfect mix. I worked with children with language delays in group settings and also tutored children individually. I am currently in the process of obtaining my teaching certificate in science and working towards my masters degree.
I prefer to work with children who have learning disabilities and/or with a dislike for education. I find that my teaching style is interesting to this particular type of student. I acknowledge the childs dismay in learning and I allow them to help me to adjust the teaching material to a teaching style that best suits the childs learning style. Science and english are subjects that many children don't enjoy. I make it much easier for them to learn the subject and then we expound thier knowledge from there.
