A Little Bit About Me...

A great benefit to teaching so many Biology labs was working with the professors to accomadate their lecture material and create a hands-on application for my students. I found this a wonderful opportunity to take a lot of information and to synthesize it in such a fashion that students could understand a complex process in a simple way. For example, visual demostrations were a favorite of mine, where you could see the light of 'understanding' in my student's eyes. In addition, I'm always very clear on what are the expectations for exams and pop quizzes, so that studying can be more focused.
While earning my PhD in Biology, it was a requirement that I teach at least 3 Biology labs each semester. I really like working with children from low income families. I think each child has a different interest and way of learning. I try to discover these learning styles before I begin the tutoring process. I try to allow them to be comfortable and having fun during our sessions. Most of the time I do a lot of question/conversation responses to allow them to find the answer for themselves. I like a problem based learning style, even for the youngest of children. I not only want to teach them how to properly concur their learning material but how to find the information they need if they do not know the answer.
