A Little Bit About Me...

I was the kid in the back of math class who was always drawing instead of paying attention. My early focus on the arts gave my parents a few gray hairs when report cards were issued but in the long run, that same focus has enabled me to build a very successful career. For the past seventeen years, I've worked full-time writing and drawing comic books for major publishers such as Marvel and DC Comics, working on books like Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man. A Little Bit About Me...

Math can be fun, especially when applied to exciting applications. For my work at NASA and the MITRE Corporation I use concepts from Calculus I-II almost everyday. Inspiring students to become excited about math and science is one of my life-long goals. Step by step visual diagrams can be effective tools for describing complex ideas. I was more of an instructor than a teacher. I was a day camp counselor at Solway House parent/child resort in Saugerties N.Y. I instructed kids how to swim, dive, play various sports and gave dancing lessons to the guests. As a high school student I tutored 7th and 8th graders in an after school community center. I was one of a few staff at the University of Connecticut to instruct graduates and staff in the use of the various electronic facilites available to them.
I feel children are very self-aware and are very vulnerable to positive and negative feedback. Therefore, no matter how little progress is made, praise them.
