I was more of an instructor than a teacher. I was a day camp counselor at Solway House parent/child resort in Saugerties N.Y. I instructed kids how to swim, dive, play various sports and gave dancing lessons to the guests. As a high school student I tutored 7th and 8th graders in an after school community center. I was one of a few staff at the University of Connecticut to instruct graduates and staff in the use of the various electronic facilites available to them.
I feel children are very self-aware and are very vulnerable to positive and negative feedback. Therefore, no matter how little progress is made, praise them. This week I am graduating Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy NY with a degree in computer and systems engineering. My teaching style is hands on I think most children learn better when they can see it for themselves and how things work. For younger children I try to make up a song and sign it for them and they seem to learn better when u sign it.
