I was a peer tutor in high school for English and Spanish. I also tutored children in Hebrew at a local temple. In addition, I volunteered as a tutor for underprivileged children in Chicago in all areas: Spelling, Reading, Writing, Math, Language, etc. for grades K-8. I love to work with children of all ages and genders. I have worked with children who have learning disabilities, physical disabilities as well as children of all ages, races, and genders. I attempt to make learning as fun and relevant to the child as possible as every child has varying levels of understanding and concentrations. I am extremely patient and can handle anything. I like to relate learning to childrens' lives (make it about basketball if the boy likes basketball, or about chocolate if the girl likes chocolate).

I hold degrees in various fields of study, and I currently work as a resource teacher for students with special needs in the elementary grades. My masters degree in teaching students with learning disabilities has prepared me for working with students who have trouble in a traditional academic setting. I work closely with parents and other professionals to differentiate materials and teaching processes according to each child's needs. My arts backround allows me to "think out of the box" when it comes to ways of engaging children with learning. Hands-on activities, multi-sensory integration, and high interest activities, promote retention of material. Students can connect to learning in a meaningful way. Although I have been self employed for the last 6 years, I went back to school last year to add Science and Math for middle school to my certification. I passed the Praxis for both of those subjects spring of 2010. I was not able to get a full time teaching position this year. I went back to working for myself but would love to tutor. I have tutored for 3 years while I worked for Tryon Elementary school. I had great success with the students I worked with, in particular concerning math. I am very qualified to work in a tutoring capacity. I believe in good classroom management and organized lesson plans.
