A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style would best be described as conversational at best, drawing out of the student, their knowledge or lack of knowledge. I have taught my two honors student sons that I add to their body of knowledge and they are to coalesce the information to their understanding.
Having a degree in Philosophy & Religion has many advantages in teaching. I have found to better understand a subject it is best to go and study many different resources for that subject, a macro-view. However the complicated subject is, a person who knows that subject will be able to present it in a simple concise manner. With this approach I am able to study and present a variety of subjects in a concise but exciting manner. The full grasps of studying P&R encompasses many sub fields of study : i.e. history, psychology, sociology, pretty much all the liberal arts.

My favorite part about teaching is the moment that something "clicks" within a child's mind. I am a problem solver naturally so I try to lead children down a path of discovery instead of just teaching the answer. I believe this helps children gain an understanding of how things work or why they are a certain way so that they are able to apply these same processes to other problems.
I have earned two bachelor degrees, BS in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business and BA in Spanish. I have 10 years of professional experience involving customer service, Spanish translation, tutoring, and training. As an ex-patriate, I was afforded the opportunity to learn Spanish fluently and have witnessed first hand its importance in business and life today. I also have elementary age children that I assist in the everyday learning processes.

A Little Bit About Me...

Because I have tutored adults, children as young as four, and all ages in between in a range of subjects, I have a very accommodating teaching style. I know how important it is to adapt teaching techniques not only to age, but also to students' backgrounds. A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently a substitute teacher in the New Hanover County school system. I have 4+ years teaching in middle school and high school classes. I have prepared and taught classes during my previous career with the Federal Government to adults. My major in Biology gave me a strong background in the sciences and math. I have found a great place in teaching, especially tutoring, due to my desire to help other people. I enjoy walking students through new information and giving them a firm understanding of the concepts and facts. I believe that there is nothing outside of a students grasp. A Little Bit About Me...

I love learning math and science and I enjoy sharing the same love of learning with my students. I like seeing the look on their face when they really get it! Students requiring tutoring are sometimes in academic distress and have anxiety therefore I have a more easy going and patient style of tutoring than most. I believe I'm an effective tutor because I remember the exact same difficulties and questions I had as a student and can relate to their frustration. Most people as well as myself are visual learners thus I teach by working several examples and gradually increasing the difficulty at a pace set by the student.
