I taught high school English, journalism and speech for more than 30 years before retiring in 2013. I also taught a year in middle school, a year in community college and worked in administrative positions at the elementary, middle school and high school levels. I have worked with students at all levels, from remedial to advanced placement and worked in an alternative high school setting. I have received training in the scoring of advanced placement literature exams and am a published writer. I also have taught SAT prep classes.

Writing is one of my top subjects! I have very strong skills in teaching the basics in writing. Often times I have found that many students do not have a strong foundation in sentence or paragraph structure. Once these skills have been firmly established, I then have students concentrate on their use of vocabulary, expression, and description in their writing.

I like to make learning as fun as possible. I strive to inspire students to want to learn rather than just teach. Communication is a key is a factor in my teaching. Communication between parents and teacher is essential in meeting the students needs.

I have had a variety of experiences as a teacher. I, at first, worked as a substitute for about 3 years. Then I worked as a 3rd-grade teacher in a private school for one year. Because of enrollment that position was cut. I went back to subbing for a time. From 2004-2009 I have worked for the Dallas School District as a personal tutor. I primarily worked with middle school-high school students. I tutored them both at home and at a computer lab on an internet program. That position was cut because of budget cuts. I am able to tutor in all basic subjects.
