My comments on tutoring Study Skills : I'm very good with scheduling and organization.

I've completed high school and been accepted into college, so I obviously have what's needed for the lower levels of education, such as elementary students, and I maintained a GPA of 3.5 throughout my high school career, so there is a good change I'll at least be able to get the resources needed for your student to excel in the subject of study they struggle in. I'm very good with younger children, I've worked with them extensively for several years.
I prefer to try to be more hands-on in my approach to teaching, especially with younger children. I do know that their attention span isn't as long as that of older people, so I try to keep them engaged through short and interactive sessions.

None of my family had gone to college, so it was predicted I would not either. I had a hunger to learn, so I systematically worked full-time and studied part-time, earning eight major degrees in cities where they alowed residency rquirements to be met in such a way. I was young and energetic, so it was a lot of work, but a joy. It took about 15 years to finally earn my doctorate. Along the way, I earned certification in a half dozen fields (especially loved English, social stuides, and psychology). I have been involved in offering educational services since I was in high school, when I tutored younger students in math, Spanish, research writing, and general elementary subjects. A career in education was a natural choice, and I have taught both ESL and Spanish, with experience in elementary and secondary teaching, as well as teaching online.

Working with such a diverse population of students ranging from grades 3-12, I have learned that each child processes information in different ways. Assisting them in overcoming their learning disability has taught me to understand and identify their struggles and how they can work through them. Just telling a child how to do a problem is not effective. I believe a teacher needs to explain the logic and reasoning behind solving certain problems certain ways. Knowing this can help the child discover what works specifically to him/her. If a child learns to reason for his/her self, they gain the ability to be lifetime learners. My hope is, that instead of dreading school they gain confidence in their abilities to figure things out, and therefore find joy in learning. After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education I spent 9 years raising my two children. I was actively involved as a volunteer during their preschool and early elementary years.
