I use the preferences, hobbies, likes, and dislikes of the student to relate the information in which they are learning. I use examples from everyday life that helps them understand information that is applicable to everyday life.
I have been tutoring for over 8 years. I have also started youth tutoring programs since 2007. I have taught algebra, organic chemistry, physics, and other core mathematics and chemistry classes. It depends on the student and what they are doing. If all they need is practice, then I will let the student do all of the work, interjecting only to give advice or to correct a mistake if the student does not catch it themselves. If needed, I will work out similar problems. If the student needs help understanding, I first go in depth why it works and why you do what you do. I then give concrete examples to demonstrate it so that the why makes sense and comes together with the actual application. Then I have the student practice to make sure they truly understand. If needed, I will become creative and come up with different ways of looking at problems so that they can make sense. But no matter what I try to have fun. The best way to learn is to have fun, and if you aren't enjoying yourself you probably won't be receptive to learning.

I have degrees in Physics and Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech. I have spent 18 years in mentoring, supervising, and leading others in technical manufacturing. Most recently, I am teaching middle and high school science -- 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th. This includes physical science, biology, chemistry & physics.
I am an optimist in the classroom. All kids can learn but only if they want to and the proper language is used to communicate.
