I learn the appropiate way to aide a student in their studies by observing their technique of solving a problem and helping them explore the problem. I show students how to break down the problem in various ways to help them better understand it. Some students need to work with a tutor on several problems; others may need a song or visual representations to help them understand a problem. I make a point to have fun with my students, and my teaching style relies heavily upon real world examples that my students can both relate to and enjoy. I have taught mathematics for over 23 years. In Ohio I taught at a middle school for 2 years and then at an all boys high school for 17 years. At the high school I was the math tutor and worked with the students in all areas of mathematics from prealgebra to calculus. Curently I am teaching at Wallace Rosehill High School in North Carolina. I have been there for five years and teach algebra and precalculus.

I love teaching all grades and levels. The most important aspect of teaching is to know your student. Each individual learns in different ways, some are tactile learners, some are visual, and some are auditory learners. Incorporating all aspects into my teaching style assists the retention of the material. It also has to be relatable to the student, so we have to use relevant examples that they understand. All children can learn any subject if you can spark their interest. There is no better feeling than seeing the light turn on and the sense of accomplishment in a child's eyes.
I have completed all courses for my Associates Degree and was a trainer at my previous position. When in high school, I was a college preparatory student and graduated with a high school Diploma as well as 12 Advanced Placement courses and completed my International Baccalaureate diploma.

A Little Bit About Me...

I started my college education in a community college, where i met many struggling students trying to improve their career opportunities. As a peer tutor at that school and in the jobs i have held since, I have developed a appreciation for the satisfaction that comes from assisting people with their coursework. I have an AAS and BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology, a minor in physics and two years of experience as a formal tutor. I have tutored students in mathematics and the sciences as well as English and composition skills.
Most of the struggling students i have encountered seem to have a low confidence in themselves that interferes with their studies.
